This article throws light on Lord Mountbatten’s enduring involvement in India after 1964, an overlooked feature of his later life. On a number issues such as the abolition titles, privileges and privy purses Indian Princes (1967–71), imposition Emergency (1975), arms sales, expulsion BBC (1970–72) evolution history-writing Partition, this evaluates changing role ‘friend India’ Britain, while becoming irksome interlocutor for both British ‘official mind’. draining influence, though not involvement, through 1970s, represented inter-generational dilation Indo-British relations.
